I thought that with Christmas right around the corner, I would write a list of a few romantic Christmas movies. Whether you watch them with your partner or the family, they’ll definitely get you into the Christmas spirit.

Love Actually is a great romantic comedy that follows the lives of eight different couples dealing with their love lives during Christmas time in London. The movie starts a few weeks before Christmas, plays out until Christmas day, and finally ends about a month after Christmas. There are a lot of great actors and actresses in this movie and I highly recommend it.

The Family Man stars Nicolas Cage as a big time executive who gets a glimpse of what life could have been if he had married his high school sweetheart. Don Cheadle plays the Ghost of Christmas Past who meets Cage at a convenience store and sends him to his alternate reality. Cage, now married to his high school sweetheart Tea Leoni, finds himself changing diapers and selling car tires. Will he regret the choice he made to leave her or go back to his fast-paced lifestyle and penthouse suite?

It’s A Wonderful Life is about George Bailey who finds himself wishing he hadn’t been born when an angel comes and shows him what everyone in his life would have been like if he hadn’t.

Miracle on 34th Street is a heartwarming family film about an old man who is declared insane for claiming to be Santa Clause. A young lawyer takes the case and discovers that the old man is the real thing. This is the ideal movie during Christmas time. The original was made in 1947 and was remade in 1994. I prefer the original and it’s received higher ratings than the remake.

Santa Clause 2 stars Tim Allen who plays ole Saint Nick. In the first movie, we find Allen as an Average Joe who finds Santa Clause one night dead in the snow. He soon discovers that he’s growing a big white beard and belly to go with it. Soon, he’s riding a sleigh and delivering presents to all the nice children. In the sequeal, Santa needs to find himself a Mrs. Clause by Christmas or he’ll no longer be Santa.

Black Christmas is a lovely tale about… Ok, just kidding — it’s a B-rated horror movie that you shouldn’t watch with the kids. If you like gore, you’ll probably enjoy it and sadly there isn’t much romance.

Many times you meet someone very special to you and instead of just parting ways, you both decide to start a long distance relationship. It may sound scary at first — not being able to be around each other every day, go out for dinner or simply relax on the couch and watch a movie. Just because you won’t be in the same zip code doesn’t mean you can’t make a long distance relationship work. I’ve been in a few long distance relationships which had my significant other and I in different countries many times. You can have the strongest relationship when you’re apart because the relationship depends on the communication between you and your partner. First, establish a set of ground rules when you’ve both decided on entering in the long distance phase of your relationship. It’s important to communicate your expectations to your partner and realize what they want too. Where will you be in six months? How often do you need/want to see each other? How late is too late when going out with friends? What about male or female friends? Everything and anything of significance to you needs to be brought up when you’re establishing rules for your relationship. Don’t be scared to talk or explore hypothetical scenarios. Second, schedule long distance dates. Talk with your partner and schedule a time for you two to be completely alone together to talk on the phone, video chat on Skype, watch a movie together, etc. It’s still quite possible for you two to do things together even though miles of distance separate you. If possible just like any other scheduled date, don’t cancel! Being stood up for your long distance date is even more devastating than being stood up for a normal date.

Visit each other often. When establishing the rules in the relationship, talk about how often you want to see each other. Depending on the distance and money issues, it could be months – even years before you can actually see each other. Be prepared to be apart for long periods of time and at any sign of trouble, talk to your partner about it. Long distance relationships can be very difficult and breaking up with your long distance partner can be heart breaking. Sometimes the relationship can endure its hardships and grow stronger but other times it breaks under the pressure. When the relationship becomes constantly stressing it may time to break up. There are several things to keep in mind before breaking up with your partner. Here are a few tips when breaking up long distance:

Think it through. Before putting both of you through the break up, think before you act. Is the relationship beyond repair? Is this what I really want? Have I tried my best in making the relationship work? Once you have asked yourself a few questions and the break up seems inevitable you should continue with the break up. If you have doubts, talk with your partner about it and you may be able to come to another conclusion.

Be Honest. There’s nothing worse than being told the old, “It’s not you it’s me.” Do not use any break up lines you have heard from a movie or friends. Tell him or her the truth about why exactly you are breaking up with them so they can have an understanding of why. The person who you are breaking up with will appreciate the honesty even if they may seem angry in the beginning.

Get The Other Side of The Story. Allow your long distance partner to explain themselves and how they feel. As I’ve talked about before in my communication articles, communication is a two way street. Not only talk with your partner but listen as well. There may be a halfway point that you both can meet at for a chance to still be together. This may possibly make the break up less painful for both of you.

Expect Broken Hearts. Whether the break up is mutual or not, you can expect that the person you are breaking up with is going to hurt and be emotional. Expect not just heartbreak either – expect anger, frustration, confusion, resentment, or blame as well. These types of emotion are bound to occur; especially when you have been in the relationship for a long period of time.

A Phone Call Will Suffice. In most long distance break up cases, a phone call will be a sufficient form of communication when breaking up. Do not fly or drive to go see your long distance partner to break up with them, especially if they have no idea that you plan to break up with them. The only circumstance where I would recommend this is if the break up is mutual and you need to pick up personal items from the other person or drop off their items.

Breaking up is hard to do but in many cases it is a healthy decision for both individuals involved in the relationship.

My love letter tips articles have become quite popular and instead of writing a part III (which I may in the future), I wanted to share with you a letter that I have actually written. This letter (e-mail to be more precise) was written a little bit before we had entered into the Long Distance phase of our relationship and it was the first I had ever written. Why do I love you?

Honestly, where do I start?   I love everything about you, there is not one thing I can pick out that I don’t like.  You are such a beautiful person – not just physically but mentally as well.  I have to say that the one thing about you I admire the most, is your smile.  Everyone notices your smile.  How warm, loving and inviting and sincere it is.  I strive to make you laugh, and do things for you so I can see it in full view – it lights up the room, and can be seen from space.

Whenever I’m down, have had a bad day, or feeling ill – you always have the right thing to say that makes me feel better instantaneously.  Even without you saying anything, just being around you makes me feel better.  The atmosphere you create cures any problems I have.  When I’m around you, nothing else exists or matters – problems go away, time stops, the moment with you is focused upon like a laser beam – every moment with you is full of meaning.  It feels right being with you, most of the time when I stare at you – I think of nothing, and that’s because perfection doesn’t require thought.  There is nothing I want to add or subtract,  I just want to bask in the moment so I can think about it later and re-live the feeling when you aren’t with me.

You are ridiculously smart, funny, witty – I love the way we crack jokes with each other, and immediately hug each other afterwards because of how playful we get.  You’re weird, in the most fantastic way.  I’m weird, and we’re weird together in a way that works.  You get my sense of humor like no other person I’ve met, not even I understand or find the things I say funny sometimes – but you laugh.  Maybe it’s not even what I say, I’m not really sure – but you laugh.

You take care of me in a way I truly appreciate and love.  I will always be there to take care of you, whether you need someone to talk to, ramble to, cry to, vent to – when you’re sick, not sick, tired, or hungry.  Knowing that you do the same for me, is another reason I love you.

You extract my best qualities and amplify them by infinity plus one, and make me what to become a better person.  I have no reservations, doubts, or hesitations when I’m around you.  Being with you on vacation was so wonderful, how I could touch, hold, and kiss you without any worries of someone from work seeing, or Mutawa coming to arrest us.  Being in Jeddah makes me appreciate every single moment we have when we can do those things without qualms.  I feel like there’s always a countdown to the moments we have alone, because I can’t wait for those to arrive where we are together again.

You have said things to me, that penetrated me.  When we slept over on the beach, and you said all those things about me – I cried.  I cried not because I was sad, because no one has ever said those things about me.  The way you made me feel then, and the way you make me feel on a daily basis is beyond what words can describe.  Happiness is an understatement, joy is too short of a word for the length of time I feel it, delight doesn’t fit, pleasure I’ll save to describe something else – but also doesn’t fulfill the requirement, satisfaction – you put me beyond that.  Ecstasy is the closest word I can find, defined as an overpowering emotion or exaltation; a state of sudden, intense feeling.  I am overpowered by you every day,  my threshold for the amount of happiness you bring me has increased to where you can say those things and I will no longer tear, but still hold on to that same level of joy you bring me.

You are sincere, nice, beautiful, hilarious, sharp, selfless, clever, amazing, amusing, astonishing, weird, intelligent.  The things you do, the things you say.  Who you are.  How you make me feel.  The way I feel when you are in my arms.  The things you make me want to do for you.  The way you take care of me.  Your smile.  Your eyes, your ears.  The way you smell, the way you taste.  When we kiss.  When we make love.  When we hold each other and fall asleep.  When we wake up together.  When we cook, and eat.  When we watch movies.  Your face when I caress you, and when I’m behind you holding you, kissing your neck.  When we’re together I have no other needs or desires except you.  Because I’ve never been happier.  Because I’ve never loved like this, or felt love this way.
